Can I use more than one SIM/eSIM in one device (dual SIM function)?
Yes, that is possible – provided your device is dual-SIM capable. Most modern smartphones either offer:
- Dual Standby: Both SIM cards are active in standby mode, so you can receive calls and SMS from both numbers. However, often only one SIM is active for mobile data at a time, and when calls are active, the other one cannot be reached temporarily.
- Dual Active: Both SIMs can be active at the same time, which means that both numbers can be used simultaneously for calls, SMS and, depending on the device, for data, although in most cases the data connection is only established via one connection.
The actual use therefore depends on the specific model and its technical properties, as well as on the conditions of the respective network operators.
For example, if you want to use the swype number primary for mobile data (internet) and your other number for calls and SMS at the same time, please configure your device like following:
iOS-Devices (iPhone):
Go to «Settings» > «Mobile Service» > «Mobile Data» and activate the standard mobile data line for your swype number to get the best possible reception and leave the «Mobile Data Switching» button disabled.
Android-Devices:
Go to «Settings» > «Connections» > «SIM manager» and select the ‘Mobile data’ on your swype SIM card under ’Preferred SIMs’, to get the best possible reception. Select than ‘Calls’ as well as ‘Messages’ on your other SIM card and leave the ‘Data switching’ button disabled.
These settings allow you to get the best possible internet performance with your swype number, while also receiving calls and SMS to both numbers.
