Why is my number being displayed by strangers (spoofing)?
Occasionally, a «phone number» may be misused by strangers on the Internet as follows:
It must be possible for the phone number to be displayed to the call recipient, known as CLIP, for this to work. If an unregulated communication network is used for a VoIP call via the Internet, it’s always possible to freely choose the «display information» (i.e., what’s displayed on the call recipient’s screen). This is the easiest method of manipulation without needing to change the calling number.
If a third party informs you that your number has been displayed for an incoming call, but this call isn’t displayed under your outgoing calls, this represents the case described above.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing swype can do to prevent this. The only option would be to request a new swype number.
